We want to use our artisan chocolate business as a platform for connecting people and communities together across the world. We believe we can do this in ways that take people on amazing adventures through:
- Forging closer, value-driven connections between food producers and consumers
- Unlocking incredible new flavour experiences
- Sailing ships across the ocean 18th century style!
You may have seen the recent, extremely popular online video showing Ivory Coast cocoa farmers tasting chocolate for the first time:
We want to take this one step further. Through a 6 week Kickstarter campaign we will enable a cocoa farming community in Bougainville to upgrade their capabilities and produce a high-quality crop of unique Bougainville cocoa beans. WCF will purchase two tonnes of these beans at a premium price and transport them via sailing ship from Bougainville to Wellington harbour! Once there, we will use our master artisan chocolate-making skills to produce the ‘Bougainville Bar’, sent to Kickstarter backers and our Bougainville partners.
If successful this will be the start of a long-term relationship. It will help re-establish Bougainville as an origin of high quality cocoa, conserving unique cacao varieties that are being lost to mass production and reward growers with premium prices.
Though this blog we will tell our story, explain our idea, and hopefully get you all involved so that we can turn this idea into a reality!
It’s a movement people – let’s get behind it!
